CERTIFICATE IV IN OCCUPATIONAL HEALTH &

The Certificate IV in Occupational Health
and Safety aims to give participants the underpinning knowledge of the basic
role of an Occupational Safety and Health practitioner. It is a
nationally-endorsed qualification that is part of the Business Services Training
Package. To gain this qualification, participants need to successfully complete
10 units. These units of Competence have been endorsed by the National Quality
Council and reflect the competencies required in the workplace by those persons
who are intending to become OSH practitioners. The 10 specific units included
have been selected to maximise the OSH learning experience.
EXPECTED OUTCOMES
As a result of this
program, participants should be able to:
• Ensure OSH legal compliance as
part of a systematic approach to managing OSH;
• Identify hazards and assess
risks using developed processes and tools;
• Undertake basic accident
analysis;
• Contribute to the implementation of OSH risk controls;
•
Accurately use a range of measuring devices to contribute to the monitoring of
agents and/or conditions in the workplace;
• Monitor the effectiveness of
risk controls.;
• Implement and monitor the organisation's environmental
policies and procedures;
• Contribute to the implementation of procedures for
effective response to emergencies;
• Plan and implement rehabilitation and
return to work strategies for recipients of Worker's Compensation benefits;
•
Manage the development and implementation of first aid policy in the
workplace;
• Ensure people in the organisation are informed about OSH and
have opportunities to effectively participate in OSH processes; and
•
Systematically manage OSH through contributing to the implementation of
developed strategies, systems and plans.

ASSESSMENT
There is an assessment component
for each unit. All assessment components require a reasonable amount of time
studying, implementing processes and developing portfolios of evidence.
DURATION
The contact time for this program
is four weeks. Courses are scheduled in two week blocks with students able to
attend one week at a time if desired. Organisations wishing to undertake the
Certificate as a corporate course can negotiate a different schedule to suit
their needs.
DESIGNED FOR
Those interested in attaining
the skills and knowledge to be able to work within the field of occupational
safety and health. There are no prerequisites for entry into the program,
however, participants will need to have sound English literacy skills and be
able to use a computer proficiently.
